PHILOSOPHY
The Association believes that education and learning are lifelong processes which prepare an individual for optimal living.  Nursing continuing education expands and enhances basic nursing knowledge, skills and attitudes by increasing and enriching nurses' understanding of the societal context in which nursing services are provided.  We support the tenet that maintaining competency in practice is each individual nurse's responsibility. Therefore, IANCE accepts the responsibilities of leadership, cooperation and collaboration to assist nurses in their pursuit of lifelong learning, thus   
improving the quality of health care to all Iowans.
The History of IANCE
 
In the early 1980's, when Iowa legislated mandatory education for healthcare professionals, the Iowa Board of Nursing collaborated with new continuing education providers to build a networking organization, called the Iowa Association for Nursing Continuing Education or IANCE.
 
Since that time, the organization has provided multiple networking opportunities through Board activities and conferencing.
